Infrastructure Funding

The Water Infrastructure Network (WIN) report released in 2000, Clean & Safe Water for the 21st Century, detailed a huge infrastructure funding deficit.  Spending on America’s water and wastewater systems must be increased by 23 billion a year to meet regulatory requirements and to replace aging and failing infrastructure.

Fast forwarding to November 2008, Our federal government has come to the conclusion that the first tax rebate stimulus package was not sufficient to stabilizes our economy.   As the economy worsens, the buzz in Washington is now about producing jobs by making funds available for infrastructure projects.

Will Infrastructure Be Part Of The New Stimulus Package? -

CABE's November 2008 Chronicle reviews the current buzz in Washington  about producing jobs by making funds available for infrastructure projects and discusses the parallels to the Public Works Employment Act of 1976 (PWEA).  CABE's work with the PWEA resulted in our clients receiving twenty-five percent of all available funding in Delaware.

Updated ASCE Infrastructure Report Card — "ASCE estimates that $1.6 trillion is needed over a five-year period to bring the nation's infrastructure to a good condition. Establishing a long-term development and maintenance plan must become a national priority. But in the short term, small steps can be taken by the 110th Congress, as well as state legislatures and local communities, to improve our nation's failing infrastructure."

Water Infrastructure Now - "This second Water Infrastructure Network(WIN) report, released in February 2001, recommends a series of public and private actions that will be needed to meet the challenges for funding water and wastewater infrastructure over the coming decades, including increasing the federal role where needs are great, public health or the environment is at risk, or local resources are inadequate."

Clean & Safe Water for the 21st Century - "This groundbreaking report, issued by the Water Infrastructure Network in April 2000, first called attention to the unprecedented funding gap faced by America's water and wastewater systems in meeting infrastructure needs. The report details an estimated funding gap of $23 billion a year between current investments in infrastructure and the investments that will be needed over the next 20 years to replace aging and failing pipes and meet mandates of the Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act."
